Lords Warn UK Not Prepared For Immigration Cap

The lords of Britain are seemingly not happy about the immigration cap that the United Kingdom government is pushing for. Truth is, the lords have sent out a warning to the government of the country that they may not be quite capable of handling the consequences that come with the immigration cap that they are trying to push. Preparation is key in handling whatever comes after and the country may not seem to be quite ready for it just yet.

A committee of Lords has sent out a warning just recently regarding the immigration cap. According to them, the very reason why the UK is definitely not prepared for such is that the country does not have the right numbers with them regarding immigration. The committee continued to state that the system that the country uses at present for tracking and tallying the numbers when it comes to movement does not have enough information and thus insufficient.

Business and companies are not prepared as well

The committee has also disclosed that companies and businesses all across the United Kingdom are also not prepared for what could happen in case the limit to immigration becomes reality. It would really mean a big drop in the number of immigrants that are going to come to the country as the government is pushing for less than 100,000 for each year only.

This definitely can mean that businesses and companies may just have a hard time trying to find the staff and employees that they would need to run their business well. If the limit goes through, it would be quite risky for owners of companies and businesses as the limit can actually disrupt the usual way that they run their business. Once businesses are affected, the country’s economy will definitely be affected as well and it will be affected in a negative way which is something that the country would not want.

The need for reliable stats

Lord Forsyth of Drumlean currently holds the position as the chairperson for the Economic Affairs Committee. On the issue, he stated that the UK government should have statistics that are reliable especially when it comes to immigration in the country. With reliable numbers, the government can then create and put together a policy that would be based on those numbers. If not, the policies that they would be making would not be guided well.

This is an important aspect of making decisions and policies for the country as businesses would be affected that much, thus the economy may have to suffer as well. The point for the committee is that the country still must have a good definition of a migrant as it helps shape the numbers into better stories that can help guide the creation of good policies.
